ポール・セザンヌ ( Paul Cézanne、1839年～1906年 )は、エクサン・プロヴァンスに生まれ、23歳で画家を志しパリに赴く。40歳頃からはパリを離れ、父親の死後故郷に戻るまで、主に南仏に滞在することが多かったが、1885年にはシャンティイに5か月滞在して、町や森を描いた絵画を残している。
